Update of the Lobby of SHANGHAI ZF ARCHITECTS
Project Address: Huangpu District, Shanghai
Construction Unit: Shanghai Zhongfang Architectural Design Co., Ltd.
Building Area:300 square meters
This design not only needs to meet the demands for new functions within a limited space but also needs to respond to and inherit the original space design, reflecting the continuity and development of China State Construction's consistent modern rational style. On one hand, we hope to add a light and bright modern public space experience to the original heavy and steady classic space, making the space more public, open, and transparent, while also reflecting on and developing the original classic space. On the other hand, it is equally important to strengthen the sense of spatial ritual and highlight its commemorative significance based on the existing spatial order to meet the spatial needs for the 40th anniversary celebration.
The core of the renovation lies in the utilization of space created by openings in the two existing floors. We constructed two boxes to fill these spaces, one dark and one light. The "dark box" is close to the core tube, built with a truss structure that creates a mezzanine storage space, filling the 20th-floor area and providing room for new functions. The "light box," situated near the outer window, is composed of a delicate mirrored stainless steel framework, profiled steel sheets, and frosted glass. It serves not only as a visual focal point but also as the staircase connecting the upper and lower levels. The framework adopts a cantilevered structure on both sides, detaching it from the surrounding spaces and facing the main entrance, giving it a strong sense of monumentality and ceremonial significance. Composed of smaller solid steel components and combined with the lightweight appearance of the mirrored stainless steel, it achieves a transparent and airy floating sensation.
