The project is located within the historical preservation zone of Pingjiang Road in Suzhou and involves the protection and reuse of historical residential buildings along the river. This design identifies three methods for protective renovation through rigorous surveying and excavation: “original preservation,” “overall retention with partial updates,” and “renovation and transformation.” Various modern architectural techniques are employed to address conflicts between the local and the overall, history and modernity, and functional transitions, revitalizing the old residence. In addition to integrating modern design elements, the functional aspects have been enhanced, incorporating modern living facilities such as a fresh air system, underfloor heating, central air conditioning, LCD televisions, 24-hour hot water, wireless broadband internet, and electronic access control. After completion, No. 31 Pingjiang Road has become a high-end clubhouse that combines tourism information consulting, a reading area, professional salons, exhibitions, and guest accommodations under the theme of architectural culture.
