Following the principle of "restoring as it was," the following measures were taken for external and internal repairs:
1. For any additions, structures, or modifications inconsistent with the original drawings, except for the second-floor addition on the northwest side (which has a style, material, and color similar to the original structure and does not affect the function or environment of the historical building), we considered keeping it. Other areas (garden, driveway, walls, facades, internal room partitions) were removed and restored according to the original historical drawings.
2. For areas not meeting modern standards or practices, such as the original roofing, we removed them down to the structural roof deck and replaced them with modern, energy-efficient insulated, non-walkable roofing.
3. For the key protected exterior parts (such as original doors and windows), a survey, documentation, and technical file should be established before repairs. For missing, damaged, or non-functional original hardware, repair or replace using original styles and materials whenever possible. If missing or damaged, professional manufacturers will create molds to reproduce the original style and materials, with an antique finish. For issues like peeling paint, cracking, rust, or leaks on window frames, use specialized solvents for cleaning and apply a sample-tested paint finish.
4. For the key protected interior parts (such as staircases), well-preserved elements, like wooden steps, copper railings, copper handrails, and ornamental posts with minor wear, should not be renovated but instead cleaned appropriately to preserve historical traces. Severely damaged carpets should be replaced with matching materials and colors, and installed to the original size and position. For rusted or contaminated hardware, carefully remove, clean with specialized agents, and reinstall securely.
