The exhibition center comprises two primary elements: a 32m x 13m cubic structure and a 40m x 15m forecourt entrance. The design intentionally carves out “void spaces” within both volumes, creating a poetic interplay between solidity and emptiness. This semi-open transitional zone doubles as a viewing platform for the reflective water courtyard and an outdoor lounge area for rest and contemplation. Defined by soaring walls and a singular circular skylight, this gray space evokes a sense of sacredness, guiding visitors into the heart of the building with dramatic light and shadow.
The two void spaces are linked by robust stone stepping stones and a lightweight floating veranda, blurring boundaries between interior and exterior landscapes. The layout’s “embracing yin and yang” posture symbolizes a fusion of Confucian cultural heritage (rooted in the region’s history) and modernist architectural principles, where tradition and innovation coexist in equilibrium. This design transcends functionality, offering visitors an immersive journey through cultural memory, spatial poetry, and modernist abstraction.
