Located in Shabu Village, Huangpu District, Guangzhou, this large-scale urban renewal initiative—Huangpu New City—is led by Vanke as part of its comprehensive revitalization of the historic area. Shanghai ZF Architects contributed to the design of Lubu Dezhe Garden & Rongyue Huayuan Residential Complexes, Rongdeli Commercial Complex, and school plots within the development.
The core challenge was to preserve the millennium-old village’s cultural legacy while ensuring that residents enjoy contemporary living standards. Our design focuses on fostering a vertical connection to the land—allowing villagers to retain their identity and sense of belonging as Shabu villagers—even amidst modernization.
This project reimagines urban renewal as a dialogue between past and future, ensuring that Shabu Village’s soul endures while embracing progress.
